“Tato Khana” Returns: Serving Warm Meals, Warmer Hearts
At Premier International IB Continuum School, learning isn’t confined to classrooms, instead it extends into parks, communities, and shared plates of food. On March 16, 2025, Premier proudly relaunched “Tato Khana” at Jawalakhel Park, breathing life back into a community-driven initiative that reminds us all of the value of a hot meal.
A Community Gathering
The relaunch brought together a remarkable mix of people: Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan, Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Chief Sitaram Hachhethu, officials from the Ministry of Education, and of course, Premier’s own students, parents, and staff. Side by side, they didn’t just attend an event instead they became part of a movement built on sharing, responsibility, and empathy.
Why “Tato Khana” Matters
Originally launched before the pandemic, “Tato Khana” was never about free handouts. Instead, each hot, nutritious meal is served at just NPR 10 which is a small but meaningful amount that helps preserve dignity while encouraging mindful consumption. And for those who want to do more? The initiative makes it possible to donate meals so others can benefit, creating a ripple effect of kindness.
As Premier’s School Director, Pawitra Limbu, shared:
“A hot meal is more than just food, it represents warmth, dignity, and care. This initiative is about instilling values of empathy and social responsibility in our community.”
Endorsed by Leaders, Powered by Students
Mayor Maharjan praised the initiative as a model for how small actions create big impact, promising continued support from the Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
But perhaps what stood out most was the role of students. From planning logistics to raising awareness, Premier learners weren’t just participants, they were active drivers of the project, proving once again that education at Premier thrives on real-world platforms and meaningful action.
Every Sunday, Open to All
The spirit of “Tato Khana” continues beyond its relaunch. Every Sunday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jawalakhel Park, the initiative invites everyone whether you’re purchasing a meal, donating one, or simply spreading the word. It’s more than food. It’s about unity, care, and shared humanity.
